Home again, more words, and a dream

Home Again: I spent a weekend in Denver. What a blast! More on that later. I worried all week about what I would eat (since I can’t eat gluten) but that wasn’t a problem at all. I ate like a queen. The Embassy suite’s made us a feast each morning. I wanted to take “Mama” home with me!

Coming home is always a bit of a mixed bag. While I was thrilled to see everyone, they were all thrilled to see me too. That’s all fine and dandy but I’ve only got one lap. :) The little kiddo’s have been waking up in the night since the day after I returned and I have a hunch it’s simply to get a little rocking chair time with Mom. Ah, these days go too fast. I know that but it doesn’t feel nostalgic when my eyes are crusted shut, my limbs numb and my rocking chair is moving so slow in the wee hours of the morning.

More Words:

One of the perks of Denver was the Masters Seminar put on by agent, Chip MacGregor and author, Susan May Warren. An incredible training on how to write a best-selling novel. Not to mention, impromptu dance lessons! Thanks Susan. :) I’ll write about that (and load pictures) later too.

Since then I’ve brainstormed the plot, reconsidered the genre and actually written a couple hundred more words on my recent WIP. Yes, I have to squeeze out many of my written words with ink, in a spiral notebook, in very small incriments. I managed those few, sweating blood (ha) while my kiddo’s swam in the pool. I have a great sunburn on my knees to prove it.

My husband laughs when I talk about my characters and/or story as if they are disconnected from me. I told him yesterday, “I found out that Clark doesn’t live on the Oregon Coast but the California coast. And you know what else? He is graduating from journalism school this year.” That brought a chorus of laughter. I don’t mind though. It is a great conversation starter… my imaginary friends and that imaginary world I’ve “discovered”.

A Dream:

I don’t usually remember my dreams but this morning I had one that stuck with me. It started with me horse-sitting someone’s five horses. Coyote’s started howling in the middle of the night and when I looked outside to check on the horses, one of them made a charge for the fence (which I didn’t recognize as my own but apparently it was) and sailed over it, running into the night.

The next thing I knew, I was driving around with a friend of mine named Debbi but not my horse friend Debi. None-the-less we were supposedly looking for the horse. We ended up in a really packed parking lot in the woods somewhere and I got separated from Debbi. I met up with a couple other friends (don’t know who) and they told me Debbi was looking for me so I could meet her friend who wanted me to audition for some musical.

I finally found them and the man she wanted me to meet was a stubble faced old man who hugged me and then started kissing my face. YUCK! All the while I was trying to pry myself away I was talking and asking questions about the musical.

The last thing I remember I was driving away from the parking lot and Debbi was waving goodbye as she followed the cast of characters into a big building. I guess I decided not to try out. Hmmm!?

Dreams crack me up!

Wow…maybe you’re feeling pulled in too many directions right now? ;) Can’t wait to see you tonight Jess!!

    Love you~

  2. I’ve not really written fiction in a while now, but when i was doing it regularly it always amazed me how i was constantly “discovering” new things about “my” characters; they had their own way of doing things.

And then the characters would go & do something entirely NOT in my plot & not planned & i had to either change direction or go back & rewrite & MAKE them behave! LOL

I miss that. Should do it again.

  3. Can’t wait to read the rest of your posts on Denver. I’m going to settle into the hotel and write tonight.

Dreams crack me up too! Look out for that moose!

  4. Debi

Strange in your dream that you would know the difference of the spelling Debbi or Debi:)

  5. I frequently remember dreams, and they crack me up too. The other night I was being chased by a huge snow monster. Go figure when it’s been 100 degrees here.

You HAD to mention huckleberries in the comment on my Magic Bullet post, didn’t you? Now I’ll be dreaming of them!
